Train Your Voice for Speech and Song
PROGRAMS OFFERED:
Voice Lessons/Vocal Coaching: Voice lessons include the fundamentals of music reading, ear-training/sight-singing, and how to produce tones that are free from tension. Each student learns how to use his or her singing and speaking voice in a healthy manner, developing knowledge of how to use the voice to avoid vocal fatigue and misuse. The basics that are necessary for beautiful tones (such as abdominal-diaphragmatic breathing, resonance, articulation/diction) are taught prior to the introduction of stylistic elements. The student also gains a solid foundation in music fundamentals, with program based on the graded system of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada. Music and pitch explorations with movement for younger students, along with piano/keyboard basics and elementary composition engage their creativity as they are learning. The Full Voice Series of workbooks and songs, as well as material from other sources, provide the elementary age student a fun learning environment. Hands-on-learning is very productive for this age group. Programs such as the Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais and Yoga for Singers help teens through adults get rid of interfering tension, in order to release the true voice (the most efficient voice with the least amount of effort).
Voice Lessons/Piano/Keyboard: I have developed a special program in response to popular demand, where voice and piano/keyboard lessons are combined. Teens and adults can devote 1/2 hr. to voice instruction and 1/2 hr. to piano/keyboard instruction. Or they can have voice lessons one day and piano/keyboard lessons another day. Elementary age students have music fundamentals lessons in which learning of music is accomplished in a fun, hands-on manner (such as board games, computer software) in which piano (following Faber & Faber Piano Adventures or Alfred's Basic Piano series) and singing (e.g., echo songs, pitch/ear training) are integrated.
For students of all ages, music fundamentals are learned in an environment that expands each student's creativity and composition skills. Students learn to improvise, transpose, and play different musical styles.
Voice lessons are highly individualized, with the discovery of one's natural voice prior to the learning of various vocal styles. Heavy emphasis on technique, singing without interfering tension, and sight-reading/ear-training.
Voice Training: Services are also available for those who want to improve aspects of their speaking and/or singing voice, to learn how to avoid vocal fold "wear and tear" in their job, and to learn behaviors that will keep their voice healthy.
